AMSOIL Signature Series 0W-30 100% Synthetic Motor Oil

AMSOIL Signature Series 0W-30 100% Synthetic Motor Oil is a fully synthetic gasoline engine oil engineered for late-model passenger cars, light trucks, and performance vehicles that specify an SAE 0W-30 grade. The formulation meets API SP (Resource Conserving), API SN Plus, GM dexos1 Gen 3, ILSAC GF-6A, ACEA A5/B5 and A1/B1, Ford WSS-M2C963-A1, and Chrysler MS-6395. Signature Series 0W-30 supports drain intervals up to 25,000 miles in normal service.

Wear protection that exceeds the industry standard

Signature Series develops a strong fluid film that keeps metal surfaces separated, reinforced by robust anti-wear additives that further reduce wear in metal-to-metal contact regions for maximum engine life. The formula provides 75 percent more engine protection against horsepower loss and wear than required by the industry standard, based on independent testing of Signature Series 0W-20 in the ASTM D6891 Sequence IVA Engine Test required by the API SN specification. The added margin extends the life of vital components such as pistons and cams during long stop-and-go service.

LSPI defense for turbocharged direct-injection engines

Low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) is the spontaneous ignition of the fuel and air mixture before the spark fires, and the event is most destructive in turbocharged gasoline direct-injection designs. Signature Series carries an advanced detergent system built to defend against the event and delivers 100 percent protection against LSPI, with zero LSPI events recorded in five consecutive runs of Signature Series, XL, and OE 5W-30 in the LSPI engine test required by the GM dexos1 Gen 2 specification.

Turbocharger and thermal protection

Turbochargers create extreme heat at the bearing, which can break weaker oils down and form deposits through turbo coking. The GM Turbo Coking Test puts an oil through 2,000 heat-soak cycles and requires that the temperature change inside the turbocharger stay at 13 percent or less. Signature Series held the increase to 3.6 percent, protecting the turbocharger 72 percent better than required by the GM dexos1 Gen 2 specification, based on testing of Signature Series 5W-30.

Detergent loading and sludge control

Detergency and acid neutralization keep oil passages clean and slow varnish and sludge formation across long drain intervals. Signature Series carries 50 percent more detergents than AMSOIL OE Motor Oil and delivers 28 percent more acid-neutralizing power than Mobil 1, based on independent testing of Mobil 1 Annual Protection Full Synthetic 5W-30 and Signature Series 5W-30 in ASTM D2896 with oils purchased July 2020. The formula also provides 90 percent better protection against sludge in the ASTM D6593 oil screen plugging engine test required by the API SN specification, leaving the oil pick-up tube screen virtually free of sludge.

Cold-start flow and viscosity stability

Cold cranking viscosity governs how quickly oil reaches bearings and cam surfaces during a winter start. The 0W-30 grade posts a cold cranking viscosity of 5,372 cP at -35 degrees Celsius in the ASTM D5293 Cold Crank Simulator test required by SAE J300, supporting reliable startup in cold climates. Once at operating temperature, Signature Series resists viscosity increase, posting only a 0.1 percent gain in the standard-length Sequence IIIH Engine Test (ASTM D8111) required by ILSAC GF-6 and API SP, and 49.6 percent after the test length was doubled, well below the 100 percent industry threshold. The same doubled test produced 40 percent cleaner pistons than the standard requires, based on testing of Signature Series 5W-30. The synthetic base stock also resists oxidation and neutralizes acids over extended drain periods, with a NOACK volatility of 8.8 percent in ASTM D5800 and a total base number of 12.5 in ASTM D2896.

Recommended applications and service intervals

Signature Series 0W-30 is built for gasoline applications that require any of the following specifications: API SP (Resource Conserving), API SN Plus, API SN, GM dexos1 Gen 3 (supersedes dexos1 Gen 2, LL-A-025, 6094M, and 4718M), ACEA A5/B5 and A1/B1, Ford WSS-M2C963-A1, Chrysler MS-6395, and ILSAC GF-6A, GF-5, and GF-4.

AMSOIL Oil Filters are designed for extended drain intervals. With other-brand filters, the interval should not exceed 12,000 miles (19,312 km) or one year unless the vehicle manufacturer recommends a longer interval. The filter should always be changed when the oil is changed, and oil level should be checked regularly. Signature Series 0W-30 is compatible with other conventional and synthetic motor oils, but mixing shortens oil life and reduces performance benefits, and extended drain intervals are not supported when oils have been mixed. Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL synthetic motor oils.

  • Best oil

I’ve been using AMSoil for so long I don’t remember when I started, but suffice to say I believe it’s the best oil on the market and when paired with the preferred customer membership it’s the the best value too.

Frequently asked questions

What is 0W-30 motor oil?

0W-30 is an SAE J300 viscosity grade. The 0W rating describes cold-start flow at low temperatures, while the 30 indicates a high-temperature operating viscosity. The grade is widely specified in modern gasoline passenger cars and light trucks that need fast cold flow paired with a stable mid-weight high-temperature film.

What is the difference between 0W-30 and 5W-30?

The high-temperature 30 grade is the same in both oils. The difference is winter flow: 0W-30 flows more readily at start in cold weather than 5W-30, which can shorten the dry-start period at low ambient temperatures. The owner manual is the authority on which winter grade is allowed in a given engine, since some specifications, such as Ford WSS-M2C963-A1 covered by Signature Series 0W-30, specifically call for an SAE 0W-30.

Can Signature Series 0W-30 replace 5W-30 in an older vehicle?

Many vehicles that specify 5W-30 also allow 0W-30 as an alternative winter grade in cold climates, and Signature Series 0W-30 carries broad backward coverage through API SP (Resource Conserving) and supersession of older GM, Ford, and Chrysler service fills under dexos1 Gen 3. Match the right product with the AMSOIL vehicle lookup before swapping grades.

Which OEM specifications does Signature Series 0W-30 meet?

Signature Series 0W-30 meets API SP (Resource Conserving), API SN Plus, API SN, GM dexos1 Gen 3 (supersedes dexos1 Gen 2, LL-A-025, 6094M, and 4718M), ACEA A5/B5 and A1/B1, Ford WSS-M2C963-A1, Chrysler MS-6395, and ILSAC GF-6A, GF-5, and GF-4.

How long can Signature Series 0W-30 stay in service?

Drain intervals run up to 25,000 miles (40,200 km), 700 hours, or one year in normal service, and up to 15,000 miles (24,140 km), 700 hours, or one year in severe service. AMSOIL Oil Filters are required for the extended interval.

Is Signature Series 0W-30 a true full synthetic?

Yes. Signature Series 0W-30 is a 100 percent synthetic gasoline engine oil paired with a long-drain additive system that resists oxidation and acid buildup over extended intervals.

Will using AMSOIL Signature Series void a new vehicle warranty?

No. Using AMSOIL synthetic lubricants does not void a new vehicle warranty, and AMSOIL lubricants and filters are covered by the AMSOIL Limited Warranty.
