AMSOIL Silicone Spray

AMSOIL Silicone Spray (product code ALSSP) is a dry-film silicone aerosol formulated to lubricate and protect nonmetal surfaces along with the metal hardware that contacts them. The spray leaves a clear, odorless, nonstaining film on rubber, vinyl, nylon, plastics, upholstery, wood, cardboard, and fiberglass, where conventional grease or oil would stain, swell, or attract debris. Owners who maintain weatherstripping, sliding tracks, convertible tops, and rubber gaskets reach for AMSOIL Silicone Spray when an oil-based lubricant is the wrong tool.

Dry lubricating film engineered for nonmetal surfaces

AMSOIL Silicone Spray is formulated for use on nonmetal surfaces and on metal surfaces that come in contact with nonmetal surfaces. The film is dry to the touch once the carrier flashes off, so the treated surface stays clean and free of the tacky residue that conventional aerosol lubricants leave behind. That dry behavior is the reason silicone spray is preferred for window channels, sunroof tracks, plastic latches, and any application where the lubricated surface still has to look presentable.

Because the film is silicone rather than petroleum, it does not soften or swell most rubber and plastic components. The result is reliable lubrication on parts that conventional grease or motor oil could degrade over time.

Protects rubber against cracking, drying, and freezing

AMSOIL Silicone Spray helps prevent the cracking and drying of rubber by leaving a flexible film that conditions the surface and locks out moisture. Treated weatherstripping, door gaskets, trunk seals, and hood seals stay pliable in winter cold and resist the slow surface hardening that comes from repeated wet, dry, and UV cycles.

The same moisture-blocking film helps keep rubber door and trunk seals from freezing to body panels in subfreezing weather and reduces the squeak that develops when clean rubber rides against painted metal.

Lubricates without attracting dust or dirt

The dry silicone film does not attract dust or dirt, so AMSOIL Silicone Spray keeps applications contaminant-free over the life of the treatment. That makes it well suited to interior window tracks, sliding doors, sunroof rails, latches, hinges, and any moving surface that runs through a dusty environment, including shop equipment and household door tracks.

The same property is what makes silicone the preferred lubricant for plastic-on-plastic and rubber-on-metal contact points where a wet film of oil would collect grit and turn into a grinding paste.

Nonstaining formula for vinyl, leather, and fabric

AMSOIL Silicone Spray features a special nonstaining formula. Beyond automotive trim, it is used to waterproof leather boots, shoes, jackets, and suede, and to condition vinyl tops, convertible tops, and upholstery without leaving an oily residue. The film locks out water without changing the surface texture.

For leather and other sensitive surfaces, the spray should first be applied to a small, hidden area. AMSOIL Silicone Spray will not damage leather, but it may slightly alter the color or hue, and a spot test confirms the finished appearance before treating a full panel or garment.

Fast drying for clean re-assembly

AMSOIL Silicone Spray dries fast, which keeps service work moving when window channels, door seals, or shop fixtures need to be lubricated and put back into use. The clear, odorless film does not bleed onto adjacent paint, glass, or trim once the carrier evaporates, and the treated surface can be wiped to remove any excess.

Recommended applications

AMSOIL Silicone Spray is built for nonmetal surfaces in automotive, powersports, marine, household, and industrial settings. Typical service points include rubber weatherstripping, door and trunk seals, sliding window tracks, sunroof rails, convertible-top mechanisms, vinyl and plastic trim, fabric and leather waterproofing, and as a release agent for molds and dies. The aerosol can also be used on metal hardware such as latches and hinges that contact nonmetal parts.

Avoid applying AMSOIL Silicone Spray to surfaces that will later need to be painted, glued, or coated, since the silicone film resists adhesion. Aerosols may have different disposal requirements than other wastes in a given area, so dispose of contents and container in accordance with all federal, state, provincial, and local regulations.

  • Great Product

I've used Amsoil Silicone Spray for various areas and projects, ie. sliding door and window tracks, switches, latches, hinges, waterproofing shoes, keeping rubber parts like windshield wiper blades pliable and flexible, even the automatic radio off switch in the car door, and many other things, for several years, with great results. There are always opportunities to use it around the house, car and shop. Tempted to use it for smoother release of cubes with ice maker in fringe, but not sure of food safety.

  • Rubber squeak gone.

I have a 1991 Mustang that, after I thoroughly cleaned it, made an incessant squeak against the rubber inside the car. I sprayed this on the rubber, kept the top down in the garage, let it dry overnight, put the top up, silence. I now use this on every rubber seal surface. Excellent.

Frequently asked questions

What is silicone spray used for?

Silicone spray is a dry-film lubricant used on rubber, plastic, vinyl, nylon, wood, cardboard, fiberglass, and other nonmetal surfaces, plus the metal hardware that contacts them. Common uses for AMSOIL Silicone Spray include lubricating weatherstripping and window tracks, conditioning rubber gaskets and convertible tops, waterproofing leather and fabric, and reducing squeak between rubber and painted metal.

Is AMSOIL Silicone Spray safe for rubber and plastic?

Yes. AMSOIL Silicone Spray is formulated for use on nonmetal surfaces, including rubber, vinyl, nylon, and most plastics. The silicone film helps prevent the cracking and drying of rubber and does not soften most rubber and plastic the way petroleum lubricants can. For sensitive materials, an unobtrusive spot test confirms compatibility before full treatment.

How long does silicone spray take to dry?

AMSOIL Silicone Spray dries fast once the propellant flashes off, leaving a clear, odorless film. Dry time depends on temperature, humidity, and how heavy the application is. For best results, apply a light coat, allow the carrier to evaporate, and wipe any excess from adjacent paint or glass before reassembly.

Does silicone spray prevent rubber seals from freezing?

The silicone film locks out water, which helps prevent the moisture buildup that makes rubber door and trunk seals freeze to body panels in subfreezing weather. Re-treating weatherstripping at the start of the cold season helps maintain a flexible, water-resistant surface through winter.

Will AMSOIL Silicone Spray stain leather, vinyl, or fabric?

The product features a special nonstaining formula and is used to waterproof leather boots, shoes, jackets, suede, vinyl tops, and upholstery. AMSOIL Silicone Spray will not damage leather but may slightly alter the color or hue of sensitive surfaces, so an initial application to a small, hidden area is recommended before treating a full panel or garment.

Can silicone spray be used as a mold release or on shop equipment?

The dry, nonstaining film and broad nonmetal compatibility make AMSOIL Silicone Spray suitable as a mold-release aid and as a general-purpose lubricant for plastic latches, sliding tracks, and other shop hardware where a clean, dust-free finish matters. The film should not be applied to surfaces that will later be painted, glued, or coated.
